Short-term service in Madagascar

It is possible to help gift-oriented and according to ones interests for a few weeks or a few months on the ground in different fields. This can also be done as part of a practical training or a gap year in the social or environmental sector.

For people who prefer to travel to Madagascar within a group, again work and mission trips to Ambohitsara and Port-Bergé are scheduled regularly (duration: 4 weeks up to approx. 7 months, limited by the rainy season). Long term services (also for individuals) can take several years.

If you should have interest in this regard, please contact us, to consider together the available options.

A preliminary meeting (Friday evening to Sunday noon, core day Saturday, with overnight accommodation option) in Augsburg/Germany or in specific cases via internet video conference for the technical and cultural preparation is a prerequisite for all interested persons to participate in a mission in Madagascar. For longer or special mission trips, an unscheduled preliminary meeting is possible. If non-Germans attend, the meeting will be held in English. More info via our contact form.

For previous short-term services, you can read personal reviews and view some pictures in our photo albums.

Previous mission trips

In 2015 and 2016 (partly since October 2014) several mission trips from 8 weeks to 1 year length took place (health station or mobile medical team, school, construction yard and agriculture) with participants from Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

In 2012 (see video), 2013 and 2014 from July to October (2012 until December) several short-term trips of different lengths (1 to 5 months) were running. From the end of July 2012 to the end of September 2013, a German nurse was working at different locations. 5 nurses, a male nurse and someone in the fields of school and construction yard were in Madagascar for 1 month to 1 year between October 2013 and September 2014.

In the context of the planned construction of a bush hospital in Ambohitsara, for 2 weeks from the end of October 2011 a German doctor has looked at the medical situation in Madagascar and the conditions on the ground in Ambohitsara and has established contacts with several organizations.

From mid-July to late August 2011 an Austrian woman teacher has helped with the further training of the employees of the restaurant in Port-Bergé and the school in Ambohitsara.

In the summer of 2010 a short-term mission trip took place in Madagascar, attended by 11 people (mainly young people but also two persons between 45 and 50 years). After two preparatory meetings in May and July 2010 for team building and cultural preparation, and a blessing and sending service, the outreach had begun in early August 2010. The tasks in Ambohitsara and Port-Bergé included, inter alia, giving playful English lessons, assistance in the health station and in earth moving and painting work on the school grounds, and evangelistic events in collaboration with the local churches.
